Moving Mayhem

It would be an understandment to say that my next few days are going to be chaotic. I'm in the midst of packing up my office to move into a new smaller space about a third of the size.

Its taken me a couple of weeks to get this fortress of boxes ready to move and I'm not looking forward to lugging all of theses down to a moving truck, and then across the city, only to move them up more stairs.

The past few days I have been daydreaming about being Samantha in Betwitched and just being able to move the whole mess with only the twitch of a nose. That would be amazing.

I'm sure that Whiskey would prefer it that way as well. Just me packing up the boxes seems to have been stressing him out enough as it is, so he'll be spending the next few days cuddled up at home while the rest of us schlep everything across the city.

Just looking at this picture of what still needs to be packed (the computer, the binders, the dividers, posters off the walls, etc) is making my stomach flip. I'm heading out to take an hour off for a much needed Hot Yoga class and then I'm coming back to tackle this with a clear head. Wish me luck!

Another Day at the Office

I walked into my office today after lunch and this is what I saw...

A 13lb mutt perched on top of my desk chair. I swear he is part cat.

I don't think that most people deal with this on a regular work day.

He stayed this way even when I was working...and kept licking my ears and nuzzling his nose in my hair.

But I don't mind because he is just so gosh darn cute. Frankly, he's the best co-worker I've ever had ;)

Whiskey's Day Job

I mentioned this once before with my video Whiskey vs The Cursor, but I have the luxury of taking Whiskey to work with me everyday. We're a pretty laid back company and he is thankfully very friendly so it works out well. And I'm sure he is happy to not be left alone at the apartment all day. But yesterday he did something so beyond "cute" that I just had to snap a photo on my Blackberry and put it up on SHBS...

He crawled up the back of my desk chair, landed on my shoulder and FELL ASLEEP! I'm not even kidding. He just curled up on my shoulders for a nap, like a cat or something. Being the loving dog owner that I am I thought "oh, I'll just leave him there while I type up some emails".....but then the snoring started. right. in. my. ear.

I would like to pretend that his napping on my office chair is a rare occurance but the fact of the matter is that it isn't. Ever seen the show "Dogs with Jobs"? Huskies that race across the Arctic. German Sheppards that guard embassies. Bloodhounds that sniff for clues. Beagles that jump out of planes.

Whiskey's job is to curl up on my office chair and sleep.

We've tried to teach him accounting or filing or even just to answer the phone. But he doesn't want to take on any more work than he can handle.

But he is cheap help to have at the office. Instead of a salary and benefits, he asks to be paid in belly rubs and biscuits. I'm happy to oblige :)

Merry Christmas!

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Christmas full of friends, family and of course good food! Last night we had our big family dinner so I intended to sleep in today, like the rest of my equally overstuffed family, until about 9 or 10 am. Well as fate would have it, that just wasn't going to happen.

My blackberry went off at 6:50 am today. Groggily I squinted at the screen and saw that it was my landlord for our office. In my still half-asleep mind I thought "Did I forget to slip the rent cheque under her door?", then it clicked that she wouldn't be calling so early about a rent cheque and especially not on Christmas.

Turns out that the hair salon next to my office sprung a leak that spread to our place through the wall and is currently being soaked up by some of the boxes that we haven't unpacked from the move this Fall. Just the kind of thing that you want to hear about first thing on Christmas morning. Ho Ho Ho!

I guess I should be thankful that its not a fire or that it didn't reach our computer system or oriental rugs. It kind of feels like deja vu because last Christmas Break the hotel that we had our office in sprung a leak as well. The room above us flooded and it came through to our place right where we had some papers all lined up on a window sill. Parts of the floor had to be repaired, the walls had to be replaced, and then months later when we were moving we found out that it had gone farther than we had expected and destroyed the corner of one of my boss' expensive oriental rugs.

Thankfully this morning the hair salon owner was able to have someone go over and lift our boxes up off the floor, because I can't get down there right away this morning - we have a house full of guests, a strata in the fridge and presents to be opened.

Now that I can't get back to sleep I may as well go take a nibble out of the leftovers in the fridge. Turkey, anyone? Or maybe I'll just crack open the peppermint bark.

How was your Christmas morning? Any big surprises?

Whiskey vs The Cursor

Whiskey is a very curious little dog. No corner can go un-sniffed. No fly can go un-chased.

One day at the office, he was doing his usual snooping around, and decided to hop up on my lap to see what I was doing at my desk that was keeping me from playing ball with him. He seemed ambivalent at first, but when he saw the cursor on the screen he stopped...mesmerized. "What is that thing? Why can't I get it?" And that, my friends, led to the following video. Take a look!
