billy reid spring 2011 collection

Robert Rausch

Neil and I have been fans of Alabama-bred designer Billy Reid ever since we moved to Nashville and checked out his store here. The attention to detail in every heirloom-quality piece and loyalty to the designer's classic southern roots make the shop so easy to frequent (not to mention, the fried chicken and bourbon parties they throw every now and then). Contrasting patterned lining, hidden pockets on the insides of suit jackets, tailored vests and cuffed denim jeans meant to last forever.. clothing intended to pass down to your children and grandchildren. In an era of disposable everything, the concept is a breath of fresh air.

While Billy Reid focuses mainly on his men's line, his women's wear is generally just as exquisite. This spring, it's no exception. The mid length pleated navy skirt (with saddle shoes!) is my favorite, but the linen overalls are not far behind. And menswear for women is even better when it involves suspenders and double denim.

PS.. today's the last day to enter the peter pan collar giveaway!

Vintage Bass Saddle Shoes - Learn to Read Etsy Store
Pointelle Socks - Forever21

Yesterday, Neil and I took a trip to Lebanon, Tennessee to visit some antique stores and eat at Snow White Drive-In Diner (barbecue and turnip greens!). The weather was lovely, which made the drive seem so short. We walked around the old town center, drank a hot fudge and banana milkshake, visited maybe five or six shops, and very seriously contemplated buying a butter churn. We also enjoyed getting creeped out at one antique store that had an electric chair and dozens of very old, very stuffed animals, some originally purchased from museums that had closed down over the years.

I found a few good pieces, including two framed Holly Hobbie pictures (one embroidery piece!) and some vintage crochet collars for the spring. Also, the prettiest peter pan collar bed jacket from the 50s that I plan on making into a blouse with a few added buttons. The whole visit felt very all-American, and so it was fitting that I wore a long chambray skirt with saddle shoes.. although Neil and I definitely stuck out wherever we went.

Happy weekend! What are your plans for the day?

Some photos I've taken around the house the past few days. The hanging doilies and lace were drying from a wash I gave them - I plan on adding lace to some dresses and skirts soon. The pretty doilies are a gift from my friend Lauren.. soon to be gracing our coffee table. The lace bralette is from UO, the saddle shoes and lace bow heels from a lovely Etsy shop called Learn to Read (check them out!).

Antique shopping in the morning! Spring is here.
