Old Silver And A Peek

There is finally what I like to call
A Light At The End Of The Tunnel in our Kitchen Makeover.

But more on that later . . . .

***********************************************
Yesterday came this to our mailbox:
 A rather beat-up box, torn and stuffed with newspapers and inside:
 Except not.
Not sterling I mean.
Instead, old silverplate flatware.
 Pre-1920, judging by the silverplated knife blades.  Later blades are stainless.
 Between the shipping and the auction cost, these 30 pieces of silver(plate) cost $17.50.
 12 knives, 12 forks, and a half dozen spoons -- all matching.
I like to use old flatware at Thanksgiving; I like to think it's been used before at family meals.
It's got history.
I have enough for about two dozen people in my old Georgian pattern plate,
but with 31 at table this year, I needed more.
 They are in great condition.  A light polish, and wash, and they're good to go.
Old Reed & Barton; I don't know the pattern name but it should blend nicely with what I have.

 And now for something completely different.

Okay, not different; I've been plaguing you with pictures of our kitchen redecorating
for weeks now, but things are actually, finally, hooray-and-hallelujah coming together!

Since there is still work ongoing, and the kitchen looks like -- well, it looks horribly messy --
I'm only sharing snips and bits of what's finally done, or nearly so.
I am still working on the doors for the pantry and wall oven areas.
 I couldn't start on them till the other doors were finished; no space to lay them out.

If you are new to That Old House, here's the kitchen we started out with,
2-1/2 years ago when we bought the house:
 It took us that long to get up the nerve to paint the oak!

I still need to:
finish the backsplash;
paint the toekicks black;
order more vineyard knobs for the other white cabinets;
put the rest of the new-but-old-looking wood knobs on the faux-Welsh-dresser-thingy;
make curtains out of that old linen-and-crochet table runner I shared with you last week. . . .
At least I think it was last week.

Then I have to put everything back where it belongs, except the stuff I will pick up and say,
"I don't need this!" and bring to Goodwill.
Thereby making room for me to bring stuff home from Goodwill.

Have a lovely Tuesday; it's gray and damp here in Northern New Jersey,
but that's okay -- I am inside, and heading for a can of paint!  -- Cass
