I live in a pretty small home so every square foot counts. Since living here I have tried to simplify my decorating. I am trying to incorporate the coastal style with my country style. It's difficult, but I am trying. I like to use pieces of furniture that I personally like, but also pieces that serve a purpose. The pie safe above is in my stairway. I have no other place to put it and I am not about to get rid of it. So the kids and I squeeze by it on our way upstairs. I also use it as our game cabinet. We keep all the games and puzzles in this cabinet.
Below is an antique drying rack I didn't want to get rid of when cleaning out my storage rooms. I have used it as a quilt display by my front door.

Another piece from storage I could not part with, below, is a Lane cedar chest. I have decided to use it in my living room as a coffee table. Inside I can store my books and magazines.
I have shared before in a previous post, but just recently moved this to my home from storage. It is my mahogany dresser that serves as a sofa table. It also has lots of drawers. I have a drawer for office/school supplies, a drawer for craft supplies, a drawer for tissue paper, a drawer for wrapping paper and curl ribbon, etc. Great storage piece.
Below this primitive cupboard serves well as my tv stand. Inside I keep my dvd player, cable box and all the remotes.

I hope this inspires you to use a piece of furniture as double duty. Don't be afraid to put an old dresser in your living room or at your front door. Long dressers such as the one for my sofa table are also great as buffets in the dining room.
Be Inspired! ~Karol :0)
